skills that make up the foundation of all athletic and sport skills. The acquisition
of proper movement skills and their associated biomechanical action and
coordinative properties are essential if young people are going to develop
the basic skills of running, jumping, throwing, kicking and lifting.
Scientific studies on motor learning and skill acquisition have shown
that the introduction and practice of proper movement skills and coordinative
abilities form a solid base upon which athletes can then enhance and refine
as they grow older, bigger and stronger. These basic movement patterns
and physical skills allow young athletes to participate safely and successfully
in the arenas of sport and recreation later in adolescence.
